La Spezia is one of those typical cities of the Liguria Region where colourful houses cover hills and cliffs, providing panoramic views over the sea. Thousands of years of history and a heart open towards the sea have shaped the character of this town surrounded by the 'Cinque Terre'.
Located on the coast of the namesake gulf, its proximity to Genoa has greatly influenced its development and culture. Take a walk uphill from the harbour, and admire the display of architectonic styles in the Old Town. Some of the best hotels in La Spezia are located here, while elegant guesthouses and villas with gulf views can be found in the highest areas.
Must-see sites in the city are the 13th-century Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St George’s Castle. The ‘Sea Festival’ is organized every summer, and its highlight is the rowing competition ‘Palio del Golfo’, a race between the 13 villages of the gulf. Departing from the port of La Spezia, boats can take you to the enchanted ‘Cinque Terre’.
The harbour is a 15-minute walk from La Spezia Central Station, and Genoa’s Cristoforo Colombo Airport is 105 km away. While planning your trip, check out Booking.com’s accommodation deals in La Spezia.

La Spezia was a great place to be based to visit Cinque Terre. The town does have a lot of graffiti though, which we initially regarded as being off putting, however we did not feel unsafe when we were there.

La Spezia is a great place to stay if doing the Cinque Terre trail. It is a nice spot with lots of shops and restaurants. November seems to be a quiet time for the area, we imagine it would have been busier and more atmospheric during summer months.

Beautiful town.
Beautiful town. Wish we had more time to spend another day there. We stayed overnight there so we could use the hop on hop off ferry to the Cinque Terre. Ferry as nice. Then took train back to La Spezia. Beautiful little city. We walked to the boat dock through the town. Lovely walk and harbor is very pretty. Got some delicious pastries in the morning, but we have no idea what they were - unfortunately. Also unfortunately we didn't get a chance to see anything else LaSpezia has to offer. I hope you do.

Listen .. if you are planning a 3-5 day exploration of Cinque Terre, use La Spezia as you base of operations. It is cheaper compared to renting a place in Cinque Terre. For me , it was a 12 minute walk to my accommodation. I could have taken a bus but La Spezia is very clean, no pollution. It is by the sea after all. If you find accommodations in Cinque Terre itself, its expensive relatively and you face the prospect of lugging your suitcases up and down steps, while thru claustrophobic alleyways . Cinque Terre towns are practically hills, homes and B&Bs are smacked right into the side of hilly country, side by side. In the evenings, if yoru schedule will allow for it, go for a scroll at the marina. Go La Spezia..

La Spezia is a beautiful village we used it as our base to hike but was sorry not to get to spend more time in the village itself. Beautiful restaurants and cafes. Train station was very busy so just allow extra time when travelling. Can't wait to come back
Nice house high up on a hill in the countryside overlooking La Spezia with a very friendly host who speaks good English if you're Italian isn't too good.
Rustic feel and accommodation clean and with heating
Bedding (blankets) and quite basic room compared to other similar standard accommodation we stayed at in Italy
Only stayed one night in October but the outside areas appeared good for summer stays
Free parking outside property
The apartment is light and airy, has calming decor, a great location and is quiet.
Downstairs out the front door there are sidewalk cafes, and gelato around the corner. The market is just a few blocks away and the fresh produce is amazing. Just a few blocks in the other direction is the park and the waterfront. This apartment completely surpassed a hotel I stayed at in La Spezia in size, decor and price.
Situated in the heart of La Spezia the apartment is a great option for exploring the city. We choose it for the convenient price compared to the hotels but it resulted a much better option. Recently renovated the apartment is clean and well furnished. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby and if you do not prefer to go out from the windows of the living room you can enjoy the piazza.
The location was about 50 steps from the train station entry, but the room was VERY quiet at night. If you want to plan a visit to Cinque Terre for a day, I highly recommend it. La Spezia is a great access point for trains and has more stores/restaurants that are open in the winter months compared to some of the towns in Cinque Terre. The hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful.
The apartment, the location and the hosts are the best we’ve ever had! We have stayed in 5 star hotels that would not be able to compete with the cleanliness, the kindness and generosity of the hosts and the extras in the apartment. We loved how easy it was to get to Cinque Terre as well and how close the apt is to the train. Perfect apartment and Glenda and her father are the best ❤️
La Spezia By The First is a fantastic choice for visitors spending time in La Spezia or centrally for their itinerary around Cinque Terre.
The hotel is in a fantastic location, is reasonable in it's size, it is very clean and has many modern and technical amenities available, including USB-A ports with actual charger ports and an iPad for use within the room.
Perfect location. La Spezia isn't the most beautiful city in Italy by a longshot, but the hotel is in the nicest area and is just five minutes by foot from the train station... making it absolutely ideal for taking the extremely convenient train to visit the Cinque Terre. The hotel itself is modern, clean, calm and staffed by rather extraordinarily nice staff.
The host, Duccio, was the warmest and attentive host I have ever saw in Italy. He recommanded us where to eat and how to best visit Cinque Terre. He also gave us tickets for a little snack on the house in the morning.
Nice, cozy and central place to stay in. Close to train station and port. Safe parking place.
Loved this place, what a find! The staff were so easy to work with, and it was a short 5 minute walk from the train station. The room was beautiful and our favorite during our 5-city tour of Italy. I only wish we'd stayed one more night! Might be silly, but it was the best hotel hair dryer we used.
Location near the ferry boats to Cinque Terre, in the central historic district. Clean and comfortable rooms.
Friendly reception by the host.
15 Euro taxi ride to hotel from train station.
Easy walk to and from train station through historic town center.
Warm welcome from the host , clean , modern and a very comfortable apartment
close to Migilarina station , great base for discovering this region of Italy in a quite residential area
20min walk in the centre of La Spezia
It was a nice hotel and village. The owners were great and allowed a lot of freedoms. They were also very helpful in explaining the bus system, etc. Speaking of, take the bus up and down the mountain unless you enjoy pain.
everything is amazing the hotel is beautiful, the location is nice, rooms big and comfortable, showers is amazing, big bathroom and the breakfast is amazing I loved for sure I could come back 5 stars ✨
Comfortable hotel with a lot of Italian charm. The hostess is really pleasant and helpful. Ideal location in the center of La Spezia. Really clean room, with every day maintenance and changing towels.
Hotel Venezia was convenient to the train station and the plaza. It was a very nice hotel with a wonderful staff. We had a group of 15 and the hotel was perfect for our stay in La Spezia.
The hostess was very nice and speak English, she gave us tips of the best places and restaurants to visit. The hotel is so close to the train station that take you to cinq terre.
Amazing hotel, great pool overlooking La Spezia and nice staff. Also a good location if you want to visit the Cinque Terre. Breakfast also very good. Clear recommendation!
Location cannot be beat. The hotel itself is not in its prime, but the family and staff are wonderful and warm. The breakfast was home-cooked and memorably good.
